The Joy of Giving

Giving can be a joyful thing. God tells us that it is better to give than to receive. With the right attitude, giving is a joyful experience. And giving reaps some special blessings from God.  They come as a result of faith in and obedience to God; “If you ask, believing, you shall receive.” “seek and you shall find” “knock and it will be opened to you.” “If you forgive men, you shall be forgiven by My Father who is in heaven.” Our obedience to God causes Him to bring about the effects of His blessing. One of those causes is the obedient act of tithing. God says, “’Test Me in this’, says the Lord, ‘and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that you won’t have room enough for it!’” Malachi 3:10. God promised Israel that if they would just begin giving the tithe, He would honor their obedience. Financial success and blessings are not unconditional. They are the result of honoring God with the tithe or tenth from the first fruits of your labor.

OFFERINGS

When grateful men and women of Israel wanted to give beyond the tithe, they gave what was called, the offering. Offerings were voluntary and often given with a vow the giver would make before God. Hannah made a vow to God that if He gave her a son, she would give him to God to serve Him. When Samuel was born, Hannah fulfilled her vow by giving a generous offering to God.  Building projects in Scripture were often supplied by special offerings from the people involved.
